Discover the contemporary work of MCCM
Born in the 60s in the suburbs of Paris to Spanish political refugee parents, MCCM is a MUSICIAN, LOVER, DREAMER, UTOPIAN, PASSIONATE, HANDBALLER, PUNK, ex HOOLIGAN, RAVER, GROWER, AGITATOR, DISRUPTOR, PRODUCER and festive and musical ORGANIZER, DANCER, PARTY-GOER... "Painter?".
With over 40 years of activism and musical avant-gardism, I discovered in 2017 the pleasures of painting, without any "artistic" training in music or painting. Instinct, tastes, curious and discoverer, pioneer I have always been attracted by everything that provides pleasures, all pleasures, committed hedonist, totally epicurean, I like to share, offer, transmit, exchange. I am called an "artist", why not, I would add "among others", in this case, but especially "mess maker".
"BY ALL MEANS NECESARY!" Yes, by any means possible participate in the demonization of cannabis, for its legalization, against prohibition and especially the repression that results from it, here is a militant mission that makes sense, to create, to paint canvases, objects using spray paint cans and real cannabis leaves. A whole symbol that through this means can enter the public space, slip into private spaces, without breaking the law. Each piece beyond its contemplative interest, thus becomes a "peaceful warrior" working for the decriminalization and legalization of this plant.
6 years ago in 2018, this project had no name when the idea, the desire to use real cannabis leaves to paint appeared as necessary, painting became "vital". It was necessary to propose, to give a new image of this forbidden plant, to paint it, to stage it, here is a solution. It is not easy to paint this kind of pattern on the walls of cities, especially since I use real leaves of this "prohibited" plant. The 5 graffitis made on kraft paper and stuck in the street having been stolen after a few hours, I put an end to this practice. It's not easy to paint vertically, so it's lying on canvases, leaves, any support that the leaves will be sprayed with colors and effects. It was by crossing the stencil creations of RAF URBAN that the idea of superimposing her female faces on my first canvases was born. A return to the sources, searching for the roots of humanity is gradually making its way. From this meeting will be born a series of paintings, it is called "the GANJA MAMAs". About fifteen paintings later, the learning is done and with the lessons learned, painting becomes more intuitive, almost easy and the need to paint becomes constant, almost irrational. It is the time of tests and confirmations, marrying colors, stains, lines, splashes, drips united by the hemp leaf, a symbol, diversity is essential.
At the beginning of 2024, the paintings come out of their cellar to finally show themselves, to offer themselves to the public and finally achieve their declared goal, to trigger all kinds of reflection, all forms of commentary, the essential thing being debate and debates. These paintings must travel, offer themselves to as many people as possible, they must speak and make others speak, about themselves, but above all about what they evoke, represent. To disrupt, to disturb, to question is their mission, to change mentalities, to participate in the changes that must "finally" happen in this country, such is the GOAL.
