Marlène de Freitas is an artist, graphic designer and above all a collector of used objects that she considers as elements of language, that our society considers undesirable..
She revalues waste, she gives them an existence, she takes them elsewhere, she moves them.
In her collection of used objects, plastic is very present. She creates photographic work of plastic bags, collected during her travels around the world, with the aim of building landscapes.
Lunar, magical landscapes that lead to contemplation, thus disturbing the eye. She seeks to provoke a totally imaginary universe, yet created with plastic, all that is most real. She questions us on the use of polluting objects that shapes our landscapes of tomorrow.
As a collector, I collect plastic bags of all shapes, colors, damaged, more or less dense... It is during my travels around the world like Madagascar, Thailand, Chile, Europe... that my collection takes shape.
Subsequently, I practice photography and scenography in order to build a semblance of a landscape either in negative or in color. I burn them, tear them, freeze them... I carry out research on the material, I practice going further than what already exists.
