I escaped from Barcelona to take refuge in Minorca, the northernmost of the Balearic Islands, the one that bears the brunt of the assaults of the Tramontane. The northern coast, still inhospitable and deserted today, was my refuge for a long time. I examined its jagged, steep walls, suspended above the bubbling eddies, gleaning here and there fragments of granite, various colored clays, shells broken by the surf. The wild goats, ricocheting from one wall to the the other were my only companions...
Later, in France I discovered the transmutation of rocks by fire, the mystery of high temperatures, the amazed discovery of cooking accidents. After the water of the Mediterranean, I saw the flames modify the mineral matter.
Today, my inspiration combines the north face of Minorca, illuminated by Favaritx, its saving lighthouse, and the disturbing, violent light of the fire that roars in the burners of my ovens....
