Light has always been a source of inspiration. my accomplice in my artistic journey. I launched myself into in a fascinating quest to tame this light, understand it, shape it, liberate it. She became my ally, guiding me towards new horizons every day.
This research is a bit like searching for the truth. and life themselves. It all started in 1978, at through a half-open door and slightly open shutters, where I took my first steps towards this essential light. From my modest watercolors to my large canvases oil, from black and white to the brilliance of the color, and even up to my most recent light sculptures, I explored all the paths to let this light shine, whether in 2D or 3D, through reflection or symmetry...
In my paintings, I look for the striking contrast between the exterior light and that which emanates from the interior. With my bas-reliefs, I guide the light so that it caresses the material and reveals its forms in different lighting. And in my light sculptures, I hold it for a moment before letting it escape, illuminate and amaze.
From light to light, I continue my exploration of this "luminous triptych", where each source has its own meaning, role and life.
In my musical compositions, my goal is to find the perfect balance between the piano notes and the orchestral arrangements, in order to create a luminous symphony. »
Jean Lassègue, researcher at the CNRS, wrote to about me: "Nicolas Lescoeur is a designer artist whose research focuses on sound/image harmonics.”
