Omar Ibrahim

biography

The artist, Omar Ibrahim, was born in south Syria, the city of As-Suwayda, in 1978. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Damascus, the capital, Department of Sculpture, in 2002. Since his graduation, he has been working as an independent artist in his studio, where he resides today in the city of Bayonne, in southwestern France, after he arrived in Paris in 2014 as a political refugee following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution in his country, Syria, turned into a hot war zone.

In his subjects, the artist Omar deals with various questions of the type of identity... asylum... exile... and the question of borders

He has many personal exhibitions and group posts around the world. He is studying today at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in the French Basque Country, ( ESAPB - École supérieure d'art Pays Basque) and he taught Arabic calligraphy at the School of Political Sciences (Sciences Po) in Paris and Reims.

He has a cultural presence in many museums and cultural conferences. Which devoted his existence as an artist committed to many political and intellectual issues expressed through his artwork such as:

His participation in a large mural of 5 x 5 meters at the Museum of Immigrants ( Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration ) in Paris, France on the issue of immigration and asylum and presenting a political message on this mural. As well as participating for three years by presenting his artworks and artistic experience in the same museum from 2016 to 2019

His participation in a mural work of 6 x 3 meters in Paris on the subject of quarantine and social isolation, after he lived in this isolation in his country during the war and times of siege. He did the same in France when the Corona pandemic occurred. This artwork was dedicated to the benefit of political prisoners and defenders of freedom in Syria and the world

The artist worked with many teaching bodies, international organizations and civil society organizations to spread the culture of coexistence and acceptance of others and to open dialogue with them after the influx of many refugees to Europe and the world due to the ongoing conflicts in their countries, including:

His work with the (Première Urgence Internationale) in Beirut, Lebanon, for the benefit of the Syrian refugees

- the work with the Life Visit Amsterdam Netherlands organization

- the Yumbe organization to support refugees in the Alps - -- the Wintegrit organization to support refugees in Paris

He is a member of the Syrian Artists Union in his country and a member of the Artists in Exile organization (l'atelier des artistes en exil) in Paris

Academy of Fine Arts in Naples – Academy of Languages in Trieste – Academy of Political Sciences in Pavia (Italy).
