Artiste Painter
Paul Richard Mason

Paul Richard Mason was born on August 31, 1967 in Rockford, Pennsylvania, USA. At the age of 13, he left the United States with his family for England.
Completely self-taught, he already began to paint. He left England at the age of 25 for the south of France, where he discovered Saint-Tropez by chance and fell in love with it. Also a musician, Mason founded his recording studio and collaborated with many musicians and developed several artistic projects. Today, he still performs on stage with his pop-rock band. In 1998, while he was crisscrossing the Côte d'Azur to perform on stage with his music group, he discovered Saint-Tropez and fell under its spell. From encounter to encounter, he was seduced by the village's very special atmosphere and became friends with the town's inhabitants.
Having already had a few exhibitions to his credit (New York, Paris, Italy), he exhibited in his first studio in the heart of the village of Gassin. Subsequently, a first gallery-studio in Cogolin and it was in 2011 that he returned to Saint-Tropez by opening his art gallery in the heart of the village. In his artistic lair, visitors can discover this extraordinary artist, with limitless creativity.
He draws his inspiration from primitive art and ancient civilizations: Egypt, Maya or African. The mythical characters are revisited by Paul Richard Mason who delivers vivid portraits, marking our sensitivity and which, in turn, fascinate, amaze and question us. Also an author, composer and performer, his music, marked by his Anglo-Saxon origin, is rhythmic and unfiltered like his painting, his fourth album is about to be completed and the artist will perform on stage in February 2023.
Alongside music, the artist created his first collection of paintings "The Expressions of Man" and was spotted thanks to it by a major art gallery in New York, which offered him a position as an artist in residence for a year.
He then participated in his first exhibitions in Europe (France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, etc.), then in the United States (New York, Boston). Given his notoriety growing and in collaboration with his partner Alissia Noirez who is in charge of his promotion, he opened his own art gallery in 2008 in the heart of the old village in Saint-Tropez. Since then his reputation has continued to grow, he has more and more collectors and the artist is noticed by major international galleries.

Artistic approach

Paul Richard Mason is an artist in his own right: a painter, an accomplished musician, a published poet, and a sculptor in wood and terracotta. He finds his inspiration in his experiences, each of his artistic expressions coming from deep within himself, without restraint.
Paul Mason's creative process is nourished by a multitude of sources. His painting excludes any predominance of a model, his inspiration alone serves as a spur to his memory, to his imagination. Mason keeps near him innumerable masses of fragments of images that have, for one reason or another, struck his sensitivity. This is the material that is used to develop his painting.
In his experiments, such as the portrait gallery, he uses black ink, eliminating all superfluous elements, and thus renders, through "a shower of vertical lines", all the sensuality of the faces and their most emotionally significant parts. The human figure (or bodies in his paintings), then strives to arouse confusion, to not distinguish the slightest explicit meaning, to better leave the "visitor" free of his feelings.
Thus Mason disrupts the way of identifying things by creating forms far from plausibility but which translate emotions in their pure state, made of just colors, like channels of communication that he uses to come to us.
Through his works, we feel vivid reminiscences of the cubism of Picasso and Braque, a colorist and narrative verve that sometimes evokes Robert Combas and especially a sculptural monumentality of his models close to primitive art,
In his last paintings, Mason makes room for more colors, the theme addressed is feminine sensuality. A true hymn to women, her latest collection transports us into a world where bodies comfort us.
Her latest collection includes resolutely contemporary works with a design and architectural style. Lately, the artist draws her inspiration from ancient civilizations (Egyptian and Mayan). This collection of abstract works immerses us in a world where men and animals live in harmony.
The artist's work consists of several collections in painting, sculpture (wood and terracotta), drawing and unique decorative objects.
The style of her painting goes from figurative to abstract, from black and white to color.
He gives color a great emotional value and the black lines that surround it draw faces, highlight silhouettes. In his portraits, his flat areas of paint or fine lines suggest joy or melancholy.
