Discover the contemporary work of Philippe PAQUET
With a father passionate about art, from my childhood I was introduced to different pictorial techniques (oil, watercolor, charcoal, pastel...) and from the age of 16 I participated in several collective exhibitions: "Salon des artistes agathois", "Young painters of Languedoc – Montpellier »…
Self-taught, it was through contact with the different artists I had the chance to frequent that I perfected my quest for my own artistic expression. It was a period of dabbling in everything… A back and forth between abstraction and figurative…I was looking for a door… A means of expression adapted to my sensitivity. During this period, I favored dry pastel and oil. Sometimes using raw colors, sometimes playing on blurring, beyond the technique, I sought to express as accurately as possible all the vibrations of my favorite themes: landscapes and streets of southern villages, seasides...
Following a stay of several years in Polynesia, I discovered another world, new vibrations... This was accompanied by a change of technique, a different expression. Works centered on the play of shapes and colors...to capture a moment, an atmosphere...Back in mainland France, I continued to work in this direction to go further and concentrate on the vibrations playing on the play of shapes and colors.
Between the figurative and the abstract, in search of a personal pictorial translation, my work has for several years been centered on the ephemeral vibrations that emanate from all reality. I seek to fix on the canvas pieces of decontextualized history, extracts of memories where the spectator is invited to share his subjective abstraction of reality.
The "Marine Vibrations", pieces of old boat hulls, translated this desire to extract a piece of history that carries memories to invite us to travel again.
The "Origins" series offered a deconstructed vision of reality. By using large formats where I mix different techniques or materials according to my inspiration, I expand its pictorial space to better invade it with effects of materials, transparencies and jets of colors where I give free rein to my imagination in search of my own genesis.
For the last series, "Vagabondage" I chose watercolor to play with the transparency of colors and offer another type of journey, a different medium more apt to translate my universe of the moment.
