Pöngse

Pöngse was born in Altena in 1951 as Jürgen Krutzsch. He wasted the most important part of his youth at school, only to find out later that most of what was taught there was completely superfluous stuff. "We learn not for school, but for life" was the motto with which the modern language grammar school wanted to convey to him the importance of learning (why the hell aren't they teaching something sensible there then?). Nobody had told him back then that the twisted sentence structure "We learn not for life, but for school" was not an invention of some class clown, but that Seneca had already written down this sentence in exactly the same way in around 62 AD and meant it that way. After graduating from high school and a few unsuccessful forays into student life, Pöngse accidentally became an innkeeper and ran the Alt Werdohl (initially with his parents and brother, later alone) for a total of 47 years (not counting the years of child labor). After Pöngse has now passed the pub on to good hands, he tries to make ends meet as a pensioner and has discovered that his worst fears are coming true. The amount of his pension was not even enough to rent a place under one of the local bridges. The local tramps told him to do something sensible first, then maybe he could come back. Since then, Pöngse has been working as an artist on the side, although - to keep your cool in the 47 years of running a pub, you had to be more of an artist than a landlord anyway...
