ATELIER DE FËANOR

My name is Quentin Asselin, born and raised in Haute-Savoie, a region that has deeply marked my love for nature and raw materials. After finishing my studies in Lyon, where I also started my career in commerce, I quickly felt the need to reconnect with my true passion: manual work.

For several years, I devoted my free time to exploring and perfecting the art of working with wood and metal. What started as a simple hobby has turned into a true vocation. I have followed many specialized training courses in order to refine my skills and deepen my mastery of craft techniques, whether sculpture, carpentry or ironwork.

Epoxy resin has also become a material that I like to enhance, allowing me to combine the elegance of natural materials with a touch of modernity. Working with these raw materials, transforming them and seeing them evolve under my hands brings me immense satisfaction.

Today, I have made this passion my full-time job. Each creation is a new challenge for me, a unique marriage between wood, metal and resin. I am always looking for new techniques and ideas to enhance these materials and create pieces that combine functionality, aesthetics and originality.

Artistic approach

My work revolves around the transformation of raw materials, such as wood, metal and epoxy resin, which I consider essential elements of my artistic expression. My approach is based on the idea that each material has its own history and energy, which I seek to sublimate through unique and authentic creations.

Wood, with its natural imperfections, knots and veins, already tells a story that I like to extend. I seek to respect and enhance the beauty intrinsic of this living material, while working it in a contemporary way. Metal, for its part, brings robustness and contrast, a raw force that I sculpt and model to create solid but elegant structures. In some creations, I integrate epoxy resin which complements these two elements, allowing to add touches of transparency, color and originality, for compositions with both harmonious and modern.

Each piece I create is the result of careful thought about the balance between these materials. I like to play with contrasts: the warmth and softness of wood versus the coldness and rigidity of metal, the transparency and fluidity of resin versus the density of natural materials. My creative process is guided by the desire to reveal the beauty hidden in these materials, while giving them a new life, more functional or aesthetic.

I am inspired by nature, architecture, but also by the emotions that the materials themselves arouse. Each project begins with the observation and understanding of the materials I have in my hands. I explore their limits, textures and properties to transform them into unique objects, whether furniture, works of art or decorations.

For me, craft creation is a way of establishing a dialogue between tradition and innovation, know-how and experimentation. My work is constantly evolving, nourished by the new techniques I learn and the challenges I set myself. I am always looking to push the boundaries of what is possible with these materials, while respecting their authenticity and origin.
