Discover the contemporary work of Ratz One
Ratz One is a street artist based in in Nantes having studied graffiti. He paints and depicts animals in a very colorful universe. He creates different reading plans in his works by superimposing elements, techniques, supports, materials, colors... He confronts different universes. It can take us from a very realistic style to a cartoon style. He thus questions our share of animality in a watered-down world constantly solicited by the world of advertising, while bringing his touch of humor.
Of all his trips, it was the one to South America, between March and December 2018, which would be the most foundational. During this trip he created frescoes in youth hostels in exchange for room and board. Seeing that his paintings were popular, the idea of making it his career by returning to France took place in his mind. From this trip he will not only bring back this desire to make a living from his art, but he will also bring back an incredible diversity of inspirations and colors, each more vivid than the other.
A jack of all trades, his preferred medium remains painting, but he likes to experiment with materials (wood, concrete, metal, etc.) as well as techniques. He sees his works as travel diaries, mixing elements and styles in an explosion of colors as varied as the world around us...
Animals have been used as art subjects for centuries and often carry strong symbolic meanings that vary between cultures and regions.
Through my work, I like to play with these representations to create a dialogue with the spectators. Everyone can make the subject their own through their history, experience and culture. It is an opening to others, an invitation to travel, to discovery as well as to reconnect with the beauty of nature, to question one's place in the city, the world around us.
I use bright colors, because color has this power to brighten up everyday life, I have been able to observe this during my numerous travels. It is this energy that I try to convey in each of my frescoes or works in the studio.
