**Review of the artist Richard Hebstreit**

Richard Hebstreit, born in Melsungen in 1946, is a versatile artist and designer whose work encompasses an impressive range of creative disciplines. Even at a young age, Hebstreit showed a strong interest in photography, which continued to develop over the decades. He undertook his first photographic experiments in 1958 with the Pouva Start 6x6 and the Voigtländer 6x12. Later, during his time in the National People's Army (NVA), he documented life with the Praktica 24x36.

In the 1970s, Hebstreit devoted himself to documentary photography at the Institute of Computer Science in Karl-Marx-Stadt, using the Pentacon six 6x6. This phase marked the beginning of his professional career as a photographer. In the mid-1970s, he shifted his focus to photography and slide-sound visualization in career counseling, which underlined his versatility and adaptability as an artist.

Hebstreit expanded his artistic repertoire to include jewelry design in the 1980s, using innovative techniques such as photo etching. His work in product design and advertising has been awarded several times at the Leipzig Trade Fair for "Good Form". In 1988 he founded "rhebs design", the first private design agency in the GDR, and introduced the registered trademark rhebs® for stainless steel jewelry.

The late 1980s were characterized by important exhibition participations in cities such as Erfurt, Gera, Dresden, Berlin and Rostock as well as in the Product Design Museum in Eisenach. His works have received international recognition, for example at exhibitions in Paris, Viareggio and a solo exhibition in Osnabrück.

In the 1990s, Hebstreit continued his innovative work by designing the first municipal PC network in the new federal states and entering into numerous design collaborations. He was a pioneer in the field of Internet projects and architectural photography and established himself as a lecturer in design, image processing and Internet applications in Berlin.

Since 2010, in what is known as "unrestful retirement", Hebstreit has devoted himself to news and stock photography, writing e-books and organizing podcasts and exhibitions. His work reflects a continuous search for innovation and artistic expression that has endured over decades.
