Discover the contemporary work of Rottger Roos

In 1954, Rottger Roos was born in the Hessian metropolis of Frankfurt am Main and spent his youth in Pirmasens. Since 1969, he has moved his life and his professional base to the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. At the age of seven, he discovered his passion for photography by immortalizing everything that was not more fleeting than himself in pictures. His first tool was a Braun Gloriette viewfinder camera that his father had discarded.

After an impressive career of twelve years as a photojournalist, which saw him work for various press agencies and newspapers in northern Germany, Roos has now devoted himself to working as a graphic artist and designer for more than four decades. With his fascinating collection of Lübeck motifs, he intensively conveys his deep affection for his chosen hometown, which he captures from postcard format to impressive large formats. He shows that Lübeck, with all its peculiarities, has found a permanent place in his heart over the years.

According to Roos himself, his photographic works, including panoramas and murals, are not meant to be very demanding. They depict everyday scenes that are meant to bring joy to the viewer - nothing more, but also nothing less. His creative works, a fusion of photography, computer art, graphics tablet and manual dexterity, are characterized by an unmistakable lightness and informality that can be considered his signature.
