Discover the contemporary work of Samuel CHAZOT
To retrace my career, I am 37 years old, I studied at the School of Fine Arts in St Étienne, experienced different artistic forms through visual arts, dance, writing and circus arts.
I have deepened a personal practice rather turned towards sculpture and the art of the mask.
A work that I always pursue on the theme of presence and the mask as a border: border between sculpture and ritual object, border between visible and invisible, between the human and the other kingdoms. In my process, immersion in the forest plays an important role, and a large place is deliberately left to randomness, intuitive feeling, the unconscious. For me, artistic practice has been linked to an open inner exploration, in parallel with different therapeutic methods or practices of consciousness that accompany my journey.
This work on the mask allowed me to begin to professionalize my activity in 2010 under the status of artist author. I have exhibited a lot locally, been winner of the sculptors' prize for the Sculpnature biennial in 2017, public prize in 2019. I also brought these sculptures to life through sylvan and poetic strolls with the quartet "Presque Rien", as well as with other artist collectives, as for the last two editions of the "Nuits des forêt" in Petite Montagne in June 2023 and 2024.
Since 2018, I have also been involved in the day activities department of Notre Maison, a reception center for disabled adults located in Aromas (39).
I support residents there through the practice of visual arts and activities in contact with nature. Among other things, we work with the support of the PAICA collection, a collection of casts from the Ateliers du Louvre bequeathed to the establishment by Mr. Bourgeois-Lecharretier, who was curator at the Museum of Fine Arts in Lons le Saunier.
Regarding mediation at Through the garden, I work mainly with the support of a workshop for growing and processing aromatic plants. For several years, I have been working on a more specific therapeutic garden project, which is currently in the implementation phase, and will allow this type of support to be anchored in the care practice of the establishment.
I carry out my various activities in parallel, but today I am investing more fully in my personal artistic practice.
My practice is rooted in nature, in the exploration of matter and the presence that emanates from the mask.
It is this object of ritual origin that possesses in itself the space of being inhabited, the void in the eyes, to give a body to the immaterial, like a memory common to humanity, like a guardian outside of time.
I feel something of the preservation of a certain link, between the matter of the trees, all the living outside, and the human soul in the expression of an interiority.
Like a search for man in his verticality, in his transcendence, a memory of unity.
