Discover the contemporary work of Sophie Denis

I started taking photos when I was 10 years old. I've been taking good quality film photos since I was 16. In the 1980s, I worked with a photographer named Pierre Kill, whose prints I made in his studio in Avallon, Burgundy. I specialized in high-contrast black and white portraits and nudes at the time. I also do landscapes and I use a 6X6, an Olympus OM1 with a 35mm 2.8, and I also have a Canon FT QL with a 50mm 1.8. I want to take my cameras but that I like with whom I become one. I am often compared to Diane Arbus or Vivian Maier for my unique and curious gaze that knows how to see what others do not necessarily see. I often spend a lot of time with the people I photograph, which allows me to capture their deepest selves, the essence of their soul. Now I do street photography, landscapes because I do not have a "model" for the moment. I photograph everything I can when I see an opportunity to take a good shot during my wanderings, always with a camera around my neck. The "photos" that we see here are not. These are my negatives that I'm scanning. I offer prints on baryta paper.
Above all, I seek to bring out the depth and beauty of souls, bodies, and nature. I particularly enjoy black and white, but I also occasionally use color. I also love unusual places and wild, impetuous nature.
