EMERGING ARTIST
Artiste Painter
Sophie LECESNE

After an absence of artistic practice for about twenty years, I picked up colors and brushes again to "be reborn" in an abstract style. Indeed, in 2018, this need to paint imposed itself on me. It was a real revelation to discover abstract painting. From that moment on, a real passion was born. Since then, it has been vital, spontaneous, it allows me to discover and continue my quest in painting. It allows me to breathe, to move forward, to live daily. It's like an instinct to live.

Imbued with this creative impulse, I let myself be inspired by my need to create. I paint, I search, I discover! I like to explore, manipulate, color, deconstruct and reconstruct. My inspirations focus on research and work with materials in particular, colors, knife work, inlaying objects such as metal materials, paper, cardboard. Creativity manages to happen instinctively, as if an excess of ideas emerged, like a real need to express oneself through painting. I let myself be guided by my emotions, my feelings, and the vision I have of life.

I regularly do exhibitions in the northwest quarter of France. Do not hesitate to visit my site https://sophielecesne.fr

Artistic approach

I paint mainly in acrylic, on small and medium formats, and I also use mixed techniques. My goal, at that moment, is to experiment, acquire techniques that I like and that resemble me, discover materials and work tools to bring my creativity to life.

My inspirations focus on research and work with matter, movement, colors, knife work, inlaying objects such as metal, paper, cardboard materials, etc.

My way of working is rather intuitive, the colors will guide the first strokes of the knife on the canvas, and the shapes will thus be born and exist.

Movement, rhythm will evolve in a natural, gestural way, and I will use techniques such as projections, splashes, drips, glazes to accompany my approach. I like intense colors, with a real depth to bring relief to the canvas. So I use the material, I like to use sand, earth, marble powder mixed with gesso to bring a solid texture to the composition. Integrating materials such as metalwork, packaging nets, string, cardboard, pleases me, I like the relief that is created under my fingers, and which will find its place within the creation.

Each painting is a piece of time, a piece of a life, in which I want to leave a trace of time, of the presence of the human being, on our earth.

My artistic approach is constantly evolving, I have, today, the project of creating canvases on the theme of the surface. Working the material, digging it, shaping it, superimposing it, sculpting it so that the canvas is nothing more than a support. The facades of buildings that have lived, damaged by environmental pollution and the presence of human beings, inspire me a lot. Plant materials, such as trees and their bark, the earth itself, attract me to them so that I can define their real construction, their "state of being". By observing all these small details more closely, life shows us that in reality, the abstract does indeed exist!

The plaster of a worn wall, the lock of a door oxidized by time, the pistil of a flower offer us abstract and real beauties at the same time. Through my creations, I would like the viewer to succeed in anchoring himself in the material to feel emotions, to be in connection with his own intuitions. To create or recreate what nature and time leave us in their passage, a bit like a return to the sources, a journey into the universal writing of man.
