Discover the contemporary work of Tania CAGGINI

Painter and sculptor with a narrative abstraction tendency. Former professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, In addition to her works on canvas, she works on other media: The papers that Tania uses are of all origins, the vast majority artisanal, that is to say made sheet by sheet by hand.
Bathed in waters of ochres, earths, plants, inked, pigmented and crumpled, rubbed and scratched, her papers then experience multiple states: stamping with wax, washes, engravings, applications of various grindings, highlights with black stone, pastel, gold leaf. His sculptures are strongly imbued with his roots and borrow the same chromaticity as his paintings or drawings. Architectural abstract sculptures, "Antiqua Diva" or "Gaëa Nera" they are all polychrome. The "antique goddesses" are the fruit of the artist's work, not on a realistic anthropomorphism, but on the expression, in the kneaded matter, of the symbol of the ancestral and ethnic woman, emerging from unspeakable ages.
Another field of creation: artists' books, after several years creating his "Artists' Notebooks", collections of bamboo drawings, engravings and other line or wax wash techniques. This exploration allowed him to work on works that differ in their intentions and their plastic expressions: from ancient and modern literature in a unique piece or in a limited series, an art object combining the visual arts and literature, the artist's book responds to his desire to create by appropriating, in duo or trio, a common creative field.

I work mainly in narrative abstraction, abstract structure enameled, according to the theme, with memory fragments and environmental visual references. The support is essential for me and must intimately carry without too much mutilation the materialization of my mental images. And this, whatever the theme addressed. The other materials are chosen in the same spirit and according to the same needs.
