Discover the contemporary work of VIRGINIE COLOMBANI
A self-taught artist, photography came to me quite late in my personal journey. I first practiced other disciplines such as classical dance, singing, painting, drawing, theater, cosplay...
A former model myself in the "Medieval Fantasy" world, I moved to the other side of the lens because I felt the need to tell my own stories in photos and compose my own images. I started by having models from my entourage pose in beautiful medieval or baroque outfits of my own creation, then I expanded my practice to other universes.
My sources of inspiration are cinema, literature, painting, history, mythology... always with the common thread of wearing a costume that allows the model to embody a character, to project themselves into another era or an imaginary world.
I don't photograph people in their ordinary lives, the real world doesn't interest me. For me, photography is just one way among others to "bring out" an image that I have in mind. I don't hesitate to use Photoshop to retouch and add fantastic or dreamlike effects.
