Viviane Van Kessel considers herself Brazilian for having lived her entire childhood in Rio de Janeiro. She had the good fortune of living in such diverse places as Mansourah in Egypt, Rio de Janeiro and Paraty in Brazil, Marseilles and Bordeaux in France, San Francisco and Anchorage, Alaska in the US and Andalusia in Spain. This is why she speaks 7 languages.It is in 1973 that she really got involved in her art studies by attending drawing, painting and sculpture classes at the School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, USA.In 1976, in Anchorage, she carries on with her fine art studies and where she sculpted her first self-portrait.Since the 1980's she's been working with clay, shaping humain figures, faces and animals, her major sources of inspiration and creation, trying to convey through her works all the emotion and joy experienced in creating them.All of her creations are unique and hand made, without using any moulds.For finishing the sculptures she uses either glazes, patinas but she is particularly fond of Raku finishes.Viviane exhibits her work in Art Gallleries or in Private or Public exhibitions worldwide.
