Description
Boxing made its first Olympic appearance in 1904 but it was only in 2012 that women could fight in their turn.
In this painting, between figurative and cubist, the artist puts two boxers in action in a ring, equipped with helmets as is customary at the Olympics and during amateur competitions. Two of the gloves are made of painted linen, in order to place this sport in its 3000-year-old history.
As in his other paintings, Stéphane Cantin plays on the triangulation of colors to make this painting dynamic. Attention then shifts to one then the other of the boxers, inviting the observer to imagine the end of the fight.
