Mara DOMINIONI

Born in 1967, to Italian parents in Switzerland, Mara Dominioni is distinguishing her career as a sculptress. Prior to her life as an artist, she was practicing architecture and interior design in Zurich, while being a longtime student of the late Hungarian painter, Laszlo Schwalm. Subsequently, she was educated at the Wackers Academy of Fine Art in Amsterdam and the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida, where she graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts. Driven by her passion to sculpt she became her own teacher. Her sculpture, a homage to the beauty of the human, is classical in character, represantational in form, exuding compelling combinations of sensuality and power, strength and vulnerability, softness and intimacy. Informed by the passionate perfection of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman sculpture and inspired by the works of Michelangelo, Rodin and Camille Claudel, aswell as many others less known, Mara Dominioni is intent on capturing „the beauty of the soul within a purity of form. Mara Dominioni has been accepting private commissions since 1995. These works include a bust of Jules Mazarin, the 17th cent. Governor of France, for a client in Amsterdam. Her most recent honors include the Kees Verkade Cultuurprijs Zandfoort 700, the George Gach price of the U.S. National Sculpture Competition and the Millenium Gift Sculpture for Royal Caribbean International, of which 15,000 signed copies were distributed worldwide. I am a translator of life. I receive experiences, evaluate them and give them an identity always accompanied by their beauty. I am laying out before you what lies behind all. Take it in and let it warm your heart.
