BIOGRAPHY

It's probably his vitriolic childhood, punctuated by vacations with his nurseryman uncle, that makes him want to do so. Daniel Roblin has a taste for looking elsewhere to see if there is a clearer sky.

A few years spent under the wings of Air France planes, and here we are! the opportunity to fly overseas.

Then, suddenly, it clicks. He refuses security. and the routine of a promising position, to get up close and personal with the rural world and discover the beauty of it. a stone wall or a Quercy roof.

For 25 years he will restore the soul and the building of the beautiful houses of the Lot.

So, with a keen eye, he will not hesitate to open an art gallery in the countryside. In order to touch art and artists more closely. 6 years to welcome a varied audience a large part of which will be the children of the region.

It's up to date this moment when one's own garden becomes fodder for food. experiment with the techniques acquired where appropriate the sculptures of artists mix with each other. personal creations.

Finally he gets down to business. discover computing to create and maintain a site allowing him to share his points of view. Views of his travels in Asia, Africa and South America, of his garden, of his emotions, of his creations, of his favorite shows.

In 2005, he was asked to photograph the Ecaussystème festival. The anxiety of the first steps in this new role gives way to anxiety. a real pleasure and the live show, as at the Aurillac festival, will become a favorite subject.

But he is not satisfied with being a spectator. He discovers that the objective can enable a relationship with others. the other. This relationship may have been long desired, during a stay with the Hamers of Ethiopia, for example, or spontaneously exist for a fleeting moment during a concert or in front of a theatrical game.

Capture the eye, seize these seconds, click at just the right moment when the relationship is made, for the time of complicity.

Each of his photos was the subject of only one “Click”

Artistic approach

Presentation text

Our educations, our cultures train us to be wear a mask.

Appearing is often much more important than appearance. ''&be''.

In my work as a photographer I try to cross this barrier to, for a moment, give to see at; the other something of his intimacy, of what he no longer knows how to look at.

As Eric Orsenna writes in his book Mali ô Mali ;

Are you ready to watch.

Watch what?

The looks.

But who is there? look into each other's eyes?

What they saw.

What fascinates me in photography is above all the portrait, I like to meet and seek out the 'human' there. which springs forth or which sometimes remains hidden and sometimes 'the inhuman'' as in the series of Cambodian or Rwandan portraits. But perhaps what I am looking for is the small detail which in the chaos brings us closer to a moment of peace, a moment of encounter with ourselves and above all with the #39;other.

I will read it to you extract from an article written by François Mary Vallée «  only the moment is truth;

There is no doubt that Daniel Roblin is a “soul-transmitter”

Observing others in all their differences is one of the reasons that brought me to work. à photography and this desire is at the heart of my work as a photographer.

During the tour of an exhibition, I invite the visitor to explore; the meeting, at the discovery of our cultural and human riches and I seek to discover suggest the importance of their diversity.

In these times of withdrawal, it seems crucial to me to learn how to look at the other, at the same time welcome with your gaze to better open yourself to what you see him.

Trying to reweave the bond that unites us to humanity.

If I had to translate the idea I have of my work into an expression, I think I would choose this one,

''Only the moment is truth''. By Geneviève Brisac.

I try to transcend the moment, go to the limits of the perceptible and the possibilities of understanding; the present in all its complexity. The moment of life, in the look of the child who smiles at you or who shows you his incredible distress, the moment of light which reveals to us nature under a another angle, from another possible. The philosopher André Lalande speaks of the moment as being a very short duration that consciousness grasps as a whole.

“seize the moment of abandonment and sharing of ''self'' with each other»

There is no attempt to erase the past, the present cannot exist without it; or to flee the future since in its ephemeral aspect, the present is already there. the future... It is this junction that I try to explore in photography as well as in other practices such as Qi Qong or Tai Chi, practices which bring me a lot in my photographic work.

This quest leads me on paths whose deep meaning still escapes me, but the words of Marcel Proust invite me to explore it. dig this furrow; “the true journey of discovery does not consist of look for new landscapes, but at the same time have new eyes.»

Elie Wisel in his book ''the Sonderberg case'' Written:

«  One way or another, eternity is here. is contained in the moment that vanishes »

I will conclude with these words taken from Eckhart Tolle's book 'The Power of Now'.

“ Since ancient times, spiritual masters of all traditions have indicated Now as the key of the spiritual dimension »

“man is a rope stretched between the animal and the superman, a rope over an abyss” Nietzsche

L'''êbeing'' '' human'' is the most important part of my work as a photographer.

Look at others in their differences, identity, cultural, economic with modesty and respect but with depth.

Recently a journalist, speaking about my work, described me as a 'soul smuggler'. I have been very touched with these two words but at the same time happy to see that what I am trying to convey can be received.

Look at the other, not as another image, but try to grasp the invisible, the inexpressible, what speaks to us without the need for words.

To be human is to have individuality. anchored in the collective, in the community. The conditions necessary for sharing and understanding are thus created. exchange with others

I am trying to rewrite a language that many have forgotten.

A quest for a language common to all humanity, a link that connects us to each other a very distant history.

For me every ''look'' is a story, a piece of humanity that we must know how to let ourselves be told, even if sometimes it is cruel, violent, desperate. Photographer Reza speaks of the gaze as the door to the soul.

It is of course not just any look, it is a question of moments where the person photographed enters into a relationship with the photographer to offer him an important part of his intimacy ;.

''Seize the moment of abandonment and sharing of 'SELF' with each other

« each spiritual figure is located by nature in the space of universal history (…) this process makes humanity appear to be as a single life embracing men and peoples and linked only by spiritual traits: it envelops a multitude of types of humanity. and culture, but which, through imperceptible transitions, blend into one another » Husserl

an artist has been working on this subject for many years, Johan le Guilerm.

What perhaps sets me apart a lot is that my look is never or almost never a look of pity, of commiseration. I look at beauty of the individual and tries to transcend it, give it a new dimension, a new horizon.

A critic speaking to me about my work came to the point: tell me about the Punctum so dear to me; Roland Barthes

The punctum is a Latin word which means the puncture, the small hole, the small stain, the small cut, but also the throw of the dice. It is the chance that appears in a photograph and which cannot be perceived by any analysis, which we cannot achieve in any way. appoint. It is a detail which provokes a strong emotion in the viewer, which attracts particular attention, but which is not the intention of the photographer. The punctum therefore constitutes a sort of subtle off-screen.

Finally, I think that work on the landscape can very well be included in this analysis.

This extract from the book «les testaments trhis » by Milan Kundera.

Ecstasy means being “outside oneself”, as the etymology of the Greek word says: action of leaving one's position (stasis). »Being»outside yourself» does not mean that we are out of the present moment at the moment. like a dreamer who escapes into the past or towards the future. If we erase the future as well as the past, the second present is found in empty space, outside of life and its chronology, outside of time and independent of it (that is, #39;this is why we can compare it to eternity which, too, is the negation of time).
