Une fois arrivé dans le royaume du Douat (le pays des dieux), le défunt devait traverser sept portes en récitant sans commettre d'erreur une formule magique à chaque arrêt. S'il réussissait, il arrivait dans la Salle d'Osiris, le lieu du jugement.
Là, la pesée du cœur était surveillée par le dieu à tête de chacal, Anubis.
