Contemporary art refers to all works produced since 1945 to the present day. Contemporary art is the successor to modern art. Each year, several events are organised in France to highlight contemporary artists and their creations. The aim of these events is to make art more accessible and to bring artists and the public closer together.

The International Contemporary Art Fair

Every year, Paris becomes the world capital of contemporary art on the occasion of the FIAC, the International Contemporary Art Fair. A true institution recognised throughout the world, the FIAC enables the most recent developments in contemporary art to be highlighted and the works of the most renowned artists in the world to be discovered. This unmissable event in October aims to expand the space of expression for galleries and artists, but also to make the experience of art accessible to as many people as possible. The next edition will take place from 20 to 23 October 2022 at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris.

The European Crafts Days

The European Crafts Days (JEMA) aim to introduce everyone to the crafts. Whether it is through immersion in the homes of professionals, in art and craft training centres or through original events, these days bring artists and their public closer together. They also aim to promote and enhance the excellence and know-how of the Métiers d'Art. A rich programme highlights techniques, demonstrations of know-how, innovation, sharing, orientation and transmission over several days. The European Crafts Days will be back from 28 March to 3 April 2022 on the theme "Our hands in unison".

The Strasbourg Contemporary Art Fair - ST-ART

A must for art lovers and professionals, the Strasbourg Contemporary Art Fair, ST-ART, offers a complete panorama of contemporary art in Europe. It is the second oldest contemporary art fair in France. ST-ART brings together renowned galleries and works by numerous artists. It honours all forms of artistic expression: painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, etc. The 26th edition will be held in November 2022 in the Alsatian capital.

World Art Day

The proclamation of World Art Day, aimed at promoting the development, dissemination and enjoyment of art, took place during the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019. It was established to "support the development of art as a means to achieve a more developed, free and peaceful world". Celebrated every year on 15 April, WFD aims to encourage art lovers, novices and the curious to visit exhibitions, workshops, cultural events and museums to better understand the purpose of art. In this way, it contributes to strengthening the links between artistic creations and society and to promoting a better awareness of the diversity of artistic expressions.
