Restaurants and cafés that showcase art in Paris
The concept of combining gastronomy and art is becoming increasingly popular. The idea is to enjoy a good meal while admiring works of art. It's an opportunity to discover new talent, to discuss art and to make it more accessible in popular places. Treat your taste buds and your eyes in one place, a winning formula. Here's an overview of these Parisian restaurants that offer art on the menu.
L'impasse
"This place is neither a bar, nor a restaurant, nor even a creative workshop, it's all at once", that's the philosophy of L'Impasse. Nestled in an artist's studio, the establishment is the ideal place for an aperitif with friends to discuss contemporary art and remake the world. Every month, a new artist is welcomed in residence. The whole thing forms a hybrid place where art and culture are in effervescence.
Le Select
The restaurant hosts exhibitions throughout the year. Far from being hidden away in a corner, the works are prominently displayed above the tables throughout the restaurant. From sculpture to photography to printmaking, all styles have their place. Exhibitions follow one another in quick succession, showcasing many artists. Regular visitors have no time to get bored!
La Bellevilloise
The establishment is an independent, artistic and festive place. Formerly the "Maison du Peuple" where Jean Jaurès held his political meetings, La Bellevilloise was also the first Parisian cooperative. Today, this 2,000 m2 space gives pride of place to innovative artistic approaches and creation through exhibitions and screenings. La Bellevilloise also hosts the annual Grand Salon d'Art Abordable.
Les Mésanges
Described as a little corner of happiness where you can satisfy all your senses, the bistro Les Mésanges does not fail to live up to its reputation. Between gourmet pleasures and painting exhibitions, visitors have plenty to enjoy. The establishment even resembles an art gallery, since customers can buy the works presented directly on the spot. A price list is displayed to show the price of each creation.
Beaupassage
A chic canteen, bakery, restaurant, butcher's shop and art gallery, Beau Passage is an unusual place to stroll and sit. Between the various shops, works of art by five contemporary creators are scattered for the pleasure of visitors. Amongst others, a 24 m long cardboard sculpture representing a forest, a three-sided totem pole carved in stone or an arch made of two oak trees made of glass sculpture are to be discovered.
Fringe
Fringe offers an espresso bar, a photo area and a lunch break with simple dishes. The establishment exhibits carefully selected photographers and offers a regularly updated selection of photo books and art magazines. The photographs are presented in large format, which adds to the charm of the coffee shop and its immersive experience. At the helm is an American photographer named Jeff Hargrove.
