The Aix-en-Provence Biennial

About the art and culture biennial called "A 5th season" in Aix-en-Provence.

This is the first edition of the Aix-en-Provence art and culture biennial, and with good reason: the project was born following the city's application for the title of European Capital of Culture 2022, a title that was finally awarded to Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg), Kaunas (Lithuania) and Novi Sad (Serbia). This is how "A 5th season" came about, which kicked off on 26 March and will run until 21 December.

Exhibitions, installations, circus, live shows, concerts, literature, poetry, comics, workshops... No less than 100 projects on the programme and 70 cultural partners playing the game! The "Spring season" ended on 17 April and the "Summer season" is in full swing. The Autumn and Winter seasons will of course follow, each with an inaugural weekend not to be missed. A rare opportunity is offered at the tourist office to meet the Japanese artist Eldo Yoshimizu, through a selection of original plates, sketches, prints and unpublished paintings of this contemporary mangaka. Or to discover at the Vincent-Bercker art gallery this new way of painting, the sketch-painting. To dive into the colourful and festive universe of more than 80 artists gathered around Winshluss to celebrate life and pay tribute to creation in an atmosphere inspired by Mexican festivals and under the influence of the artist Posada....
