Listening to Kandinsky
At theCentre Pompidou and in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture, Kandinsky is celebrated with a wealth of previously unpublished documents: letters, manuscripts, photos on his life, his work, his passion for painting... and an amazing experiment where you learn to hear colours!
The Centre Pompidou in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture has created a virtual exhibition worthy of the great pioneer of abstract art, "In the intimacy of Kandinsky". We know the importance he attached throughout his life to the theoretical research of colours and forms that, beyond appearances, speak to the human soul.
Here the theme is music, because Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was gifted with synesthesia. By clicking on Play a Kandinsky, the visual and sound experience allows you to hear the colours that the artist attributed to various abstract forms and which gave rise to masterpieces such as "Yellow-Red-Blue" (1925). The colour yellow is the trumpet, red the violin and blue the organ. The site offers the possibility to see the music, to listen to the colours, to explore the world of synaesthesia and it is a success.
It took two years to create all the documents and experiments on this giant platform dedicated to the Russian painter Kandinsky. So treat yourself!
